Islington Council Expands Selective Licensing to 7 New Wards

Islington

Following the initial announcement in October 2025, Islington Council has now successfully moved into the final rollout phase of its Selective Licensing expansion. The scheme is now active across 7 high-priority wards to tackle poor property conditions.

Wards Affected

The new designation includes Barnsbury, Caledonian, Highbury, Mildmay, Laycock, St Mary's & St James's, and Tufnell Park. Landlords in these areas must apply for a license for every privately rented property let to a single family or two unrelated people.

Strategic Compliance

Islington has integrated these new wards into their existing enforcement framework, meaning inspections will be more frequent and stringent than in non-designated areas.
